Mack Funds Help Future Journalists by Reid Carroll The Press Club Scholarship Foundation has benefited from the last act of a well-respected San Diego journalist, ensuring that his legacy will have impact far into the future of his profession.
Bedel Mack was a Copley Press employee for more than 40 years, rising from a humble beginning as a cub reporter to the ranks of a well respected and admired assistant managing editor of the San Diego Evening Tribune.
Mack passed away on January 17th of this year and in his obituary his family suggested that in lieu of flowers or other means of honoring his memory, make a donation to the San Diego Press Club Scholarship Foundatiion. His friends and associates contributed almost $2,000 to the Foundation. Part of those funds will be used in a scholarship grant that will bear his name and contain a brief acknowledgement of Mack's accomplishments and standing among journalists. Posted April 2007 |
