Aspiring Reporters Receive PC Scholarships by Reid Carroll Two aspiring print journalists impressed and inspired a Blue Ribbon Committee of San Diego Press Club members and will receive scholarships to help them complete their education. The Press Club Scholarship Foundation received 26 entries competing for the two available scholarships this year. San Diego State University journalism majors Jessica Long of Escondido and Alanna Berman of San Diego will each received $2,000 Joe Lipper Scholarships toward completion of their bachelor's degrees. The Press Club Board of Directors will meet Long and Berman at the June 11 board meeting, present them with their awards, and share some inspirational facts about their benefactor Lipper and his lasting influence on the media. Long has been employed as a print reporter for several years and will be returning to SDSU in the fall semester to work on her degree in journalism. Her article on an enduring family business published in the San Diego Business Journal impressed the Blue Ribbon Panel, as did Alanna Berman's article published in the SDSU Daily Aztec that provided new insight into Muslim customs. Congratulations to our winners! Posted June 2007 |
