Gaffes & Laughs Ahead at Legends Luncheon on November 4 By Frank Saldana Veteran television photographers Carl Gilman and Art Farian recently joined the Legends Luncheon committee to give members an insight into what a photographic display for the November 4 program will entail. Gilman, formerly of KFMB television and now retired, has volunteered "Tapes of Wrath," a 23-minute outtake from a National Press Club roast of President Reagan more than 20 years ago. He said it's a "classic" that remains hilarious today. Farian, who retired from as chief photographer at KGTV-TV, is working with the committee to obtain those eagerly anticipated outtakes from local stations to round out the visual presentation during the Legends' Luncheon, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Mission Valley Resort (formerly the Mission Valley Inn). Longtime committee member Norrie West, better known for his work with Junior Golf and as public relations director for the Del Mar Fair more than 20 years ago, contributed a vintage photo of women playing golf at Pine Valley in 1927. Committee members promise a wide array of outtakes that reflect much of the lighter moments in San Diego's history over more than a half century. Doug Oliver, retired KFMB weatherman and the Legends piano virtuoso, also will provide background on some of the outtakes shown. Resevations are just $22.50 per person. RSVP at sdpressclub@cox.net or call 619-231-4340 to secure your seat. Posted Sept. 2006 |
