Plaques And Raffles And Goodies... Oh, My!

By Chuck Fox, SDPCJA Chair

The old adage, "You pays your money and you takes your chance!" is certainly true in the case of Carneys, Las Vegas and Journalism contests. As over 1,100 entries will discover on October 26, 2006, "Some you win, some you lose and some are rained out" also applies. This year losing will be such sweet sorrow because the order of the evening will be "Fun, fun, fun now that daddy took the plaque away!" image

(Forgive me that lead... I was going for a Guinness Book of World Records for the most platitudes in a lead... came close, but no cigar!)

The big news at this writing is that EVERYONE at the festivities at Chuey's will walk out with something grasped in their hot little hands. The committee has been working diligently to fill a "Goodie Bag" of swell stuff to be grabbed up on your way out. So it matters not whether you are an award winner, you will have your materialistic little heart filled with joy at all of that SWAG!

The night's theme will be a 40's style Latin Quarter nightclub, featuring the music stylings of Xavier Cugat, Desi Arnaz, Glenn Miller, The Dorsey Brothers, Harry James and many other legends. It just keeps on getting better, doesn't it?

We want to thank those sponsors who were the first to step forward this year: SignOnSanDiego, Cox Communications and Ross, Dixon & Bell. There are still sponsorships available and if you have a contact or would like to become a sponsor yourself, please get in touch Terry Williams at the Press Club.

I want to remind you too that the World Famous Trolley has a stop at Caesar Chavez Parkway, just 50 yards by actual measurement from the front door of Chuey's. Park at the Old Town Transportation Center or any of the stops along the route and relax en route to pick up your awards. Of course there is parking in Chuey's lot, on the street and at the lot across the street and we have arranged for plenty of security in the area. So come by train, car, plane or boat and we will all enjoy the evening.

Champagne for the winners, water for the losers and beer for our horses!
